We had a few appliances that had painted roller shutters and the red never completely matched that on the bodywork, even though they used the same paint on them. Probably to do with the way the light hit them and the fact that the paint wore in different ways. I wouldn't worry about it.

Slap a bit of varnish over it perhaps Peter? Otherwise - an interesting (and I guess quick?) conversion

Good thought James.  The conversion consisted of acquiring some "plank look" 1mm plasticard from Back2Bay6 and cutting it to the aperture size while remembering to leave some "tags" top and bottom so it engages with the original slots for the folding doors, meaning no glue or supports required.  The coach can be restored to its original state in under a minute.  Paint was a rattlecan job allowed to dry overnight.  Not exactly tricky, but I think worth the minimal effort!

The Stig was an Xmas key ring novelty item.  Not sure if they are still available. Possibly on eBay?

A last train for 2011.  Mail for the rest of Europe was conveyed across the border late this afternoon.  Just for fun, Zenda depot's "pet" shunting loco was allocated to the short train.   The empty stock returned just before heavy rain fell, putting a possible shadow over the massive firework display scheduled for the royal palace at midnight.

Thank you to all those who visited, provided advice and help, contributed to the RR threads or simply exhibited utter disbelief about this small central European railway.

Ruritanian Railways will return in 2012!

The people of the Wetton Valley salute the down trodden masses of Ruritania (and the girls too) and wish both your great nation and your beautifully formed railway a prosperous 2012. May your trains always run on time, may your pork scratching harvest be plentiful and may your  pootank never over-flow. WaveWaveWaveWave

I met up with my chum Hargreaves of the Foreign Office for a drink over the Christmas Hols.  Apparently, upon reaching retirement age, any previously imposed foreign travel restrictions are automatically reviewed.  So, it looks as though the 'Decin Border Incident' may finally be laid to rest Thinking

This could well mean that 2012 might become a year of increased travel opportunities Real Big Smile

Happy new year to all Ruritainians especially those whom laboured in the workshops to produce the pride of Cogges Railway..... Hic

Ps stop showing off that postal train. Prince rupert showing off red and green trains cost me a fortune in 2011....
