Seems the real ones were used to assist coastal artillery batteries....

A 60-inch searchlight mounted on a rail-car, circa 1918.
Located at East Point Military Reservation, Nahant, MA.

 

The 60-inch Searchlight No. 5 (later numbered 18) moves on narrow- gauge rail - Fort Rosecrans, Cali
 
So yeah, I think the model ones are pretty much NKP
