Re:Insuring your railway

beavercreek Well, I have spoken to my own insurance (Regal) and also to Magnet. Regal, as part of your home insurance cover you for £5000 in open garden. This would mean that the rail stuff would be included with things like garden furniture, koi fish, etc. (decking and hard landscaping is not part of this but is included as part of the buildings cover). You are covered for £10000 worth in locked sheds, locked chests etc. This cover also covers for full value (10,000) if items are being transported anywhere else! Limit on any one item is £5000 Magnet said that your garden railway is covered for the amount that you insure and the items can be out in the open (you do not have to be using it!) and also in locked sheds, chests etc. It also covers you for taking to other places where cover would be for 5% of the total. £15000 cover is about £74, £20000 about £97 etc etc. There is a £50 excess. Limit is £1000 for any one article but higher amounts can be itemised and the cost of policy would be re-appraised Hi Mike Also spoke to Magnet today, got the same response as you, seems they have a slightly dif interpretation to Aviva who i had spoken to before. From the description it sounds a pretty good policy, intend to try and get writen confirmation first. (will post the results if any) Lady did say Garden railways seem popular today so i suspect a few others may have phoned as well
