Roundhouse Bertie Progress

Hi folks Since buying a superb, secondhand Roundhouse Bertie from Simon Whenmouth at Exeter, I have been busy making simple enhancements to make it into a more industrial looking loco with on-board radio control. I have been recording progress here: https://sites.google.com/a/gardenrailwayclub.com/club/locos/roundhouse-bertie and I have just uploaded a video of the loco on its first outing at Roy Wood's railway. I have used subtitles to mention the suppliers who products/services I have used, and also to acknowledge that I had the gas too HIGH and the temporary name plates were wonky ( b******y double sided tape!). Hopefully these are not too distracting..... You can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNKv0bd1CNg And on my website news page where there is also a nice Leek & Manifold video from Chris Haley. In the meantime here are a few photos of the current state. I am planning another vid to explain the mods..... Cheers Chris

That is the prettiest Bertie I've seen, painting the slip eccentric linkahe black really helps the look of the motion.

hornbeam May I ask where you got the dummy springs from? And love the work you have done! Many thanks for the kind words guys. This has been a real team effort with Tony Willmore (www.rhoshelyg.me.uk) doing the main lining and satin varnish, Tom Beattie (www.locoworks.co.uk) designing the springs, sandboxes etc. and Rob Bennett suppying me with unpainted drivers to butcher to fit! And then, of course, there are the Roundhouse parts - and I now know I could have got the slidebar and crosshead from them for £7 as well! Most of the suppliers are shown on the video at the bottom of the screen at various points too. Cheers Chris

Hi folks I have uploaded the final (I think) two parts of the Bertie saga. In these I look at all the modifications and give some explanations. It is me rambling on again I am afraid, but hopefully there will be some useful information for anyone new to modifying locos. Part 6 covers paint, buffer beams, springs/oilers etc, handrails and cylinder covers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbMP_Qsdv5M Part 7 covers fitting a driver, radio control, fire irons, lamp brackets, cab interior, rear door and body removal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGSXjKBSq6w Cheers Chris
