Although I said I was going to take it easy for a while, I've been pretty busy today either side of the Turkish GP. I was a bit concerned after yesterday's rain that I would go out one morning to find that the earth bank at the rear of the WHR curves had collapsed onto the track, so I thought it needed securing in place ASAP.
After the (infamous

) Three Amigo's tour of the Welsh narrow gauge almost exactly a year ago, Alec kindly gave me a gert big slab of Welsh slate which had been used as a house sign. This morning I took the bolster chisel to it and managed to split it into 3 parts. I also had an old roof slate which I cut in 2. Using these pieces I built a slate cutting, each being cemented in place and to each other. The soil was then back-filled.
Plants came from all over our garden and most of them have been chosen because they will spread. I've also re-positioned my Cain Howley cottage which couldn't be seen very well in it's old position. Plus the "Happy Campers" have made a re-appearance

.
I swept up all the slate debris that resulted from splitting the slab and covered the cement at the bottom of the cutting to hide it.
Corpet comes past on a passenger service. Although it doesn't really show in this pic, the cutting is quite a bit higher than the trains passing through it.
Diesel shunter passes through with the ballast hoppers. Next job will be to build the rockery on the inside of the new loop.
