Digital RIGI? - 11/05/10 07:39 PM

Hi just experimenting with a digital Rigi. Removed main board and put in a redundant chip. Is this a first? The intention is to wire it up to a feed back module.  Adjusted chip to give a slow ramp up of speed

This is an 18volt set and doesn't have a pause timer on it. So it just runs and then the pulley allows the cable to slip untill the run timer times out and changes rotation. The lenght of the run means that the cars don't pause too long and also leads to premature wear of the running rope.

Well the slow ramp up looks better. Just need reed switches to make it operate.

That's really interesting.

I've just been trying my shop display Rigi system outside for the first time before I build the shelters around the motor etc. Mine just changes direction when the end is reached but goes nice and slowly. I'll post pics later. I've got some nice old Tin Plate Rigi cable cars too for special occasions.

That looks an expensive way of doing it how about an oo gauge shuttle unit from somewhere. Maybe not this type as it relies on diodes etc but there must be a version that uses switches or reeds?

Not really expensive  Spare chip from fitting a massoth XLS. Feed back module controls the rack(paid for) Two reed switches £ 2.00 . So no not expensive

Good news it works. The limit switches need to be secured in final positions and need some magnets to fit on the running beam. The feedback module works like a dream

Hi Dan yes i am going to It's just time thats holding me up.
The only reason that I am doing it is I just thought it was something different from chipping a loco. Also to reduce the fretting of the running wire

Hey Phil,

Any progress on this.  I am particually interested in the position of the reed switches and magnets.

Oh, and please can you detail the commands you used for the central station programming

Not progressed much Mark what with the openday looming and work. The original idea was to incorporate magnets in the draw bar. Will see what weekend brings

Experimented with magnets in the drawbeam.

Failed.

So the next plan is to use loco magnets under the cars. The reed switches will have to be located in the base station. Need a trip to Maplins for some cable

After the openday's failure of the cable cars (Tooth gone on gear) a new motor has been fitted.

It is now under going exhaustive testing.

Not happy with reed switches, so been to maplins trying micro switches seem more reliable.

Hey Phil,

Any progress on this.  I am particually interested in the position of the reed switches and magnets.

Oh, and please can you detail the commands you used for the central station programming

Ta

Sorry Mark about delay in posting details of programming, but here goes

The same as the shuttle programe

>I.E M3 then M1 and scroll down to Auto prog. M2 to OK
Then M1 to auto drive confirm with M2 then enter switch(reed)no, In my case because I have the rack on 1 & 2 I chose 3 confirm with M2. Then enter contact number 2b . OK on M2
Loco number your choice, confirm M2. Command 3 confirm M2  then delay your choice..
Thengo through the next stege the same only entering 4 as the number and 2A as contact number. Scroll to end using M1 M2 entering your numbers

Then after the delay time press M2 again at this point the curser goes back to number here press 3 confirm on M2 that should then go to contact at this point  press the right arrow.
This then goes back to number enter 4 then Ok on M2 that should take you to contact here press the right arrow then M3 to loco number turn the control knob to the desired speed. Once happy with speed exit to another loco number

Hope this helps

Note the limit switches are in the roof of the station and make contact with the beam
