The best bit of any model is adding the details , well its the bit I like best anyway.

Last night I added the starts of the hinges, today they have been shaped a bit and some notches filed in to make them a little more hinge like.

I have also made some door handles that need a little more shaping, and the door stops.

Finally I have bent up some welding wire to make the grab handles

The last Southern EMUs were scrapped this year! They ran on the Lymington Branchline until SouthWest trains decided they were too costly. Sadly they last ran in May... Back on topic and your coach is looking better and better. Well Done!!!!

Today has been one of those Saturdays when I hoped to get a decent bit of modelling time but didn't.

In the 20 mins I did escape to the shed I decided a coat of primer was in order. I find it helps to find what needs attention.

I've spent a couple of days in London. 12 days ago we took our 16 year old daughter up to Newcastle to join the youth crew on a "Tall Ship"  the Stavros S Niarchos. She spent the last 12 days sailing the North sea, including a stop in Holland. The climax was coming up the Thames yesterday afternoon and under Tower bridge. More info on my external blog

http://rjrmodels.blogspot.com/2010/07/stavros-s-niarchos.html

We got home today mid afternoon and I have only spent half an hour in the shed tonight, a couple more details added, lamp brackets and  guards hand rails on the ends.

and  a light dusting of primer on the underside

How I wish someone had done that for me when I was that age, I'd've been the making of me. Come to thing of it I don't think sailing ships were invented that long ago. Anyway I'm sure she has appreciated it and hope that she realises how lucky to be able to do such a thing. Absolutely magic (just like the MkI.)!

What scale are you using? As it is standard gauge running on 45mm track.

That is just as fantastic as the Sulzer , I am in awe of your talent ( this from someone who thinks he has done well to get the paint to land on the surface it was meant to & cannot cut a piece of paper in a straight line )

Good question, Doug.

Life is full of compromises, the big one here being I am modelling in 1:24 or 1:24.5 to be exact as I use 1mm to the foot. which means I have the worlds first narrow gauge class 25 ??? I have disguised it slightly by making the bogey frames quite thick. It is obvious if you sit and stare but given that I am running on cheap and cheerful playmobil track , what the heck !

BTW I used to go sailing on OYC(T) ketches and ended up working on one for a while so the north sea, holland and tower bridge all great memories. when my boys are big enough i'll be sending them.

Numbers and face details, the first 2 compartments of the coach have some glazing now too.

I wish you would stop posting these pictures. You are making me feel I am an underacheiver!

That is misspelt but I am too tired to correct it.  My mind has gone to mush.

As soon as the coach has dirty windows, it'll look just like the real thing Laugh

If you collect together enough scraps of rubber tube, wire and plastic sprues then add in a couple of plastic card offcuts and you have just enough bits to make some buffer beam details

The green is a garden plant tie.

I also have moved the numbers to be on the drivers window at each end as per the discussion with James after the last blog post.

Then add a bit of black, orange and silver paint..

Finally pointing man is devastated it appears the platform is not built to the correct height.

He has taken it hard

But I can report despite at least one of his colleagues looking like he is not offering help he has made a full recovery.

You've struck a chord there, all right!

This is D829 Walrus on a down train leaving the Royal Albert Bridge and entering Saltash Station in 1964. B and W - and green diesels, sorry, RJR  - certainly hasd an impact all its own.

Kind regards,

Alec

Nice picture Alec thanks for sharing.

This afternoon I have been doing some roof colouring, lots of 25 pictures show the roof as being near black with dirt. The coach roof was too light as well.

I also have sprayed some sleeper grime on the bottom of the coach, which still needs a lot of glazing ( I keep putting it off !)

Roof ..

Grime..

In the next one I like how you can see the coach through the cab, one of the benefits of larger scales, this sort of picture is easier !

And my favourite picture of the month !!...........

The weathering to the windows in the last pic is amazing. It has the white gubbins along the bottoms and sides of the frames (undercoat?) which was evident on almost every coach after a few years of use. I have never seen that represented before. Thumbs Up

Glad you like it but to be honest I have been trying to get rid of it !!!!
When you use a CA (superglue) on clear plastic it always seems to leave a white mist. Having watched CSI I think its a reaction between the superglue fumes and the grease in your fingers, as often the white haze is a fingerprint pattern. Generally the haze wipes off, in this case with a cotton bud (Q tip) the cleaning process like most badly cleaned windows hasn't removed it from the corners and edges. If you think it looks prototypical I wont clean any more off.

I got the same effect - unintended , when I used some 35mm slide glass on a caboose - dirty, frosted glazing. I liked it so it stayed!
