4-8-0 a rebuild
-
18/07/10 10:40 AM
Well last year towards the end of the summer I scratchbuilt a 2-8-0 tender loco from Bachmann parts. I posted the topic on G scalemad and it was well recieved by all . Unfortunately last November disaster struck !! while running oneday hauling my rake of Bachmann hoppers there was a bang and a snapping sound the train came to grinding stop and smoke appeared from under the loco !!! on investigation the chassis had seized and coupling rods snapped in numerous places. When got the loco back on to my work desk and stripped it down I discovered that the gearbox and disintergrated and this intern had caused the coupling rods to snap and at the same times jammed up the driving wheels oh dear ! Hmm what next a new chassis so I attempted to purchase a Aristo mikado chassis with thoughts of turning down the centre drivers so the loco good go round my r1 curves. Alas no such luck even contacted Aristo and they were very helpfull but had none in stock or for the foreeable future. So loco stored pend replacemnt chassis ! heres a piccy of "ELSA" as a 2-8-0 in brand new condition !

So in the meantime I obtained a nearly new Delton 2-8-0 have made it a bit more European British and must admit I am impressed by the running qualities a photo of before being modified

Impressive

I also managed to get my hands on a Aristocraft chassis, and decided that the small wheels wouldn't look too bad on a JZ83, like the Zillertal No 4 locomotive. Having now made a start, here's what it looks like so far.

Yes, they are very tiny drivers, a good point. The Px48s could be a better fit!
