Marklin may emerge from receivership without investors 24/07/10 12:30 AM (permalink)

A July 22nd press release from Michael Pluta, Marklin's administrator, states that the firm is expected to emerge from administration without outside investment (though that does not mean the firm won't be sold to a third party).  All comments refer to the entirety of Marklin, not just LGB elements.

Half-year results for 2010 indicate an above-plan profit.  Supplies from Marklin's Chinese supplier, Sanda Kan, are reportedly now only 6-7% of turnover, in line with a planned reduction of suppply from China agreed with Sanda Kan.

A quick update on the July story.   Michael Pluta announced on September 13th that a four year business plan has been established which is expected to restore stability to both Marklin's business and the Goppingen workforce (albeit with 28 further redundancies this year, from 500 employees).  Pluta also said that Marklin should leave insolvency in 2011.  It is understood that no outside investors are expected to take over the firm.

We if thay are the facts then it sure does look like they were being raped by the venture capitalists - as has been well suggested before.

Would not be the first time, or probably the last.  In fact, about a year or so ago on a business radio program here in the US, the LGB-Marklin saga was actually used as an example of how "investors" can really muck something up to make quick money....or wreck something when they don't understand the business model.
