Accucraft Ragleth

Hello All!
 
As the Ragleth is very simular to edrig, and indeed cardoc, I was wondering; Are there any takers who are going to go for this revised loco?

I'd very much like one in the future; I think it's a rather attractive machine.

I think I'm going to get on, I have an edrig, very happy with it so I think I'll go for one in black! I'm in talks with Paul Baily at the moment about looking at producing some coal fired boilers for this kit because I'd definately look at a coal conversion! Lets get the loco first though!

It's an Edrig with a cab and I'm getting a dark blue one.

It's a damn sight prettier than an Edrig... Not sure if I prefer it to Caradoc though, I'll have to wait until I see one of each side- by- side.

There is a better colour choice than Caradoc and it'll be cheaper.

noo, isnt really. tanks totally different, different smokebox, totally different.

the ragleth tanks dont look right being that far back with the ends that go up. if they came half way along the smokebox, then it would look nicer, hence why caradoc looks so good.

and the bunker shape is just bad.

It's the same chassis as Edrig,smoke box of Mortimer and same shaped bunker as Wrekin.I think it looks a well balanced design.

They look fine to me- allows access to the motion too, I agree with Alan and think it's a well balanced loco. Caradoc to my eyes actually needs slightly longer tanks, they look a bit odd ending where they do. Need to match the smokebox, either as Ragleth or full length. That said, I'm more than happy with the look of my Caradrig.

In fact the Edrig kit should fit. You would have to carve a hole in the bottom backsheet to allow for firing and you may have to adjust slightly the shape of the functional water tanks to fit, but otherwise it should be fine.. Only thing I have not checked is the length of the boiler wrapper but this is not insurmountable. I currently have two coal fired Edrigs here and (especially with the addition of a damper on the firebox door and the fitting of the latest design of crosshead pump drive) are superb runners. There has been a question mark of longevity of these engines. The answer is proper and thorough cleaning after every run. Mine has done around fifty hours and shows no sign of wear because I completely degrease, freshwater then WD 40 wash, dry and re-oil with heavy steam oil every single time I use it. Doesn't take long and i enjoy doing it.

Always fancied doing a WD loco Ross. Maybe an NG line from the old station at Wearde to a fictional Establishment along the lines of HMS Defiance (the original one on a hulk) – or a gated branch from Trematon...

Pretty much the route of the cross-country run from my old school, then, Tag.......
 
With a bit of (imaginary) traffic from the (real) mine on the shore at Wearde Quay thrown in for good measure, of course.

That would have gone via Wearde Station Alec – very busy stop there during the WWII

thanks for your advice with that Tag! I have put my name down for the conversion kit! Paul Bailey has kindly agreed to modify the inner side tank to fit the Ragleth design. We are confident it will fit as it is the same chasis and boiler as the edrig.
I did look at the kit when I first got my edrig but didn't really have te money, blah blah blah. I later kicked myself for not going for this opportunity and since then, have had my edrig all Radio control kitted out and as we all know, Edrigs are no longer being produced. My next bext option was the Ragleth and jumped at the opportunity to go for it as Paul doesn;t think he will produce another batch of this type of conversion kit again.

I will have to cut a hole into the rear bunker, as you quite rightly said. I was considering removing the back bunker or making it easily removable and again, easy to put it back again.
I think I'll just have to see when I get my hands on the loco I suppose. I may be calling on your expertise of this loco and the coal kit in the future; be warned!

The latest version of the DHB kit for Edrig/Ragleth or whatever is an excellent design. I am very fond of my coal fired Edrig and it is undoubtedly a delight to run. As with all coal fired locos (and motor cars) there is a learning curve, but after a while then I would say that this model is very relaxing to run. Biggest thing is your cleaning routine. I will pass that on later (if you have not already read it in GR) but it is the single most important thing for longevity. My running gear looks brand new and after many hours running is little more than run in.. I have another Edrig here that I am working on for a friend and this one performs just as well. Anything I can do in terms of help and advice I will do...
