LGB 2020D STAINZ STEAM 0-4-0 LOCO - Operating the Steam facility

Hi All, I have just bought an LGB Stainz loco from eBay which I am pleased with. It is loco No 2 with steam and sound but I do not have any instructions with it. When operating the steam facility do I just pour oil down the funnel grill or does this detach in some way? It looks an akward thing to do so I have decided to wait until I get advice from this forum. How much oil do I put in to the funnel? Any advice gratefully received. Kind regards, Dave

Use a pipette or small syringe to squirt between 0.5 to 0.7ml of smoke oil into the chimney. A little more won't do any harm but the unit probably wont be able to heat up sufficiently to make smoke.
Please do not adjust your mind, there is a fault in reality.

Hi Neil, Thanks for your very prompt reply. I have tried the loco this morning and the smoke works well. However, this is loco No 2 with sound and there is no sound at all. Again am I missing someting - ie can this sound function be disabeld in some way? Really disappointed as this was one of the main reasons I purchased this loco. It is only 18 months old and I run an anologue system. Any suggestions? Kind regards, Dave

If you open the link below and download the "Bedienungsanleitung" you'll get the instructions for a US 120V version starter set with sound which may help. http://www.champex-linden...dc12568ee00377702.html According to page 6 of the pdf (9of the leaflet) , inside the cab, on the back of the boiler you will find a three position switch numbered 0 to 2. This has to be in position 2 for the sound to work. I've not got a sound stainz, but other sound locos I have are fitted with a four position switch, these have to be in the fourth position (marked 3) for the sound to work. If the loco has been chipped at some time the sound may be disabled on analogue. However I'm guessing here as I don't know enough about all the MTS control options.

Hi Neil, Thanks for your very helpful reply - very much appreciated. I found the lever and the sound is now working. I did search the loco for a switch device but did not discover it as it appears to be well hidden in the cabin. Thanks for the website address also. Kind regards, Dave

Dave, the grill on the top of the Stainz chimmney can be removed, no problem, and the loco will "smoke" more . Just put a screwdriver blade under the grill lip, and ease off. The smoke heater element will be now be seen in the chmmney. Put some smoke oil in and enjoy! Alyn

I have taken knives and cut the center out to allow for adding fluid and more smoke on a couple models. ....and tell the 4 year old to keep her hands out!
