Couple of EMU's for you from the Liverpool Area....... 1938 LMS design (if not built by them BR built some more in the 50's) Wirral lines unit at Garston. 1939 LMS built Southport lines stock at Ormskirk (from memory..) They are both from 110 prints (using a Kodak "Pocket Instamatic"), as I didn't get a 35mm camera until Christmas 1979

Now this one has got me a bit puzzled, because there's a pair of them, and a van behind the locos, so this is not a Fort William to Mallaig. I think this is most likely out of Glasgow with TC from Euston. This countryside has got a look about it which would put it to the north of Ben Nevis, I think this is about Roy Bridge on the way to Spean Bridge

Now a pair of them at Mallaig and one is still green. Incidentally most of these pics would come from about 1968 I would say

New Haven Neil 'uddersfield???? Leeds??? Manchester? It looks like the Newcastle - Liverpool train -on the way to/from Uni I suspect. It is indeed a Newcastle-Liverpool train, approaching Ordsall Lane No.2 signalbox where the line from Salford met the line from Deansgate (MSJ&A main line). It was four track on the Chat Moss route from Manchester Exchange as far as Barton Moss Junction (immediately west of the M62 (now M60) bridge. Liverpool Road station and Granada studios are just off to the left.

Sorry thes pics just coming up in any old order. This is Dyce when the passenger services between Aberdeen and Inverness were still totally entrusted to d.m.u.s. It was a pretty dismal service really and for once BR were leaned upon to smarten things up, and they did, starting off with 26s and 27s but improving until eventually the motive power was alsmost totally 47. It will still be a decade though before demand brought about by the offshore business resulted in Dyce station being reopened

Ah, the flagship of the Aberdeen to Kings Cross passenger trains. 1E17 departed variously about 10;30 and was at that time the last day train of the day to the capital. Once the HST took over trains ran departed to London right up to about 16:00.

Here's a slightly wider view from March 1973 when the footbridge was still in situ. Taken from a Kodak instamatic too!

Another view at Dyce a good time before it reawakened to passenger traffic, which move has turned out to be highly successful. This is still the good old GNS pick up goods, probably going to Elgin

Inverness probably well into the eighties by now I would think. This will be a departure for Edinburgh or Glasgow

And my final railway shot, but I've got one or two other things up my sleeve, is where I mispent my youth. Behind me would be good old 61B, Aberdeen Ferryhill, once the preserve of the A2, Blue Peter, AHPeppercorm, Barham, Sun Chariot, I'm going to cry again. And there is Ferryhill Signal Box to the left, and the remains of the once Deeside branch to Ballater, now when this pic was done just a short spur

CoggesRailway I don't remember class 40's, in fact that 50 was arriving in Oxford not long before I arrived in the world. However I still enjoyed them for 10 years hammering away departing platform 4 at Reading... I like the look of them (being near idenitcal to a 37 - well to someone who has never seen one in the flesh anyway....) I assume they were more powerful did they have the same wheel arrangement....? Class 37 - 1750hp, max speed 90mph Co-Co. Arguably the best piece of design ever from English Electric's railway division, though somehow without the visual appeal of a class 40 (he said without any bias whatsoever.....) Class 40 - 2000hp, max speed 90mph 1Co-Co1. The divine dinosaur! Already technically backward when introduced in 1958, it just had something about it that made you want to stroke it Even as a supposed professional, I took any opportunity I could manipulate to get on a class 40. Class 50 - 2700hp, max speed 100mph (plus a bit more downhill on Shap). English Electric's final fling and damn fine too, especially when all the rinky-dinky bits BR's people insisted be added and which didn't work very well were taken off again! Bogies derived from the Deltic/ class 37 designs: traction motors essentially the same as a class 37.

Mallaig Harbour, back about '68. The Loch Seaforth used to ply the Western Isles for years and few people had any respect for the old thing. She even ended her days ignominiously slowly sinking in shallow waters off Tiree and effectively blocking the entrance to Scarnish Harbour

My sincere apologies for straying from the terms of reference of this thread. My last digression will come back to the rail, but not British. (I kept my few old large format slides in one folder and when I was looking for the BR stuff one or two other things popped up, your honour, I won't let it happen again). This final pic was done in 1970, I am pretty sure it was Tubingen, one of several DB depots which were very well known to UK enthusiasts in those final DB years. These were superb old engines, kept in fine working order. The Prussian P8 4-6-0, later the DB Class 38, and of course seen all over Europe.

oh this is getting good - whatlep, I yam mucho impressed with your ID'ing that photo - I just couldn't place it! Garston was a good memory too - I lived close by for a year, and was there when the line re-opened to passengers - 78/9??? ish..... Cyril, you're forgiven provided the current level of posting shots keeps up!! As the worlds worst thread drifter, how could I complain, especially when you post such interesting things.
